How to Choose The Best Commercial Web Hosting Service

I know that many articles about this case which contains a guide how to choose the best web hosting services in the Internet.

In this article, I try to use a different approach for those who want to get the best web hosting services with a variety of perspectives that is rarely thought.

All my explanations below are for commercial web hosting services, so not suitable for those of you who want to find a free web hosting services, although there are some criteria that you can use to find free web hosting services.

I used to believe in the concept : “a hosting company that had been in the business for years is the best web hosting”, but things have changed. As I recall, nearly forty percent of all hosting companies out of business during the past year. If you are one of the customers of the hosting company that went out of business, you already have your own horror story to tell.

And these are the criteria of good web hosting service :

1. The reliability and speed of access

Not only the host network must be reliable and fast to ensure uptime. In fact, even 99% uptime is too low – it really should be 99.5% or higher. The host should provide some form of restitution (for example, the apportionment of the refund or discount) if it falls below that figure. However, that the guarantees are often difficult to apply to an end – the host usually requires all sorts of documentation. But without such a guarantee, the network host will have little incentive to ensure that their servers are running all the time. So how do you know if a hosting company is reliable or not? By word of mouth or feedback from others! If that’s not possible then you can yourself try accessing your site during peak hours and non-peak hours too so you can assess how well the speed of your hosting company is.

2. Amount of web space

The provider of web hosting services usually assign a certain amount of space on your server. You need to ensure that there is plenty of space for your site and business requirements. You can expand your online business tomorrow and would require much more space. It is therefore imperative that the web hosting company should be able to give enough space for your site, especially if it is rich in graphics or video clips. Most sites require less than 10 MB of web space, so even if they have a host that offers you with 200 MB or 500 MB (or “unlimited space”), be aware that you will not use all of these 500 MB, so it’s not wise to use the 500 MB of space as a big factor when compared with other hosting companies. The hosting company is also aware of that, which is why they feel free to offer you that as a means of enticing you to host there. For example, cybersplash.net, which has dozens of pages so far, used less than 50 MB to related pages and files.

3. Data transfer (Bandwidth)

Data transfer (sometimes loosely referred to as “traffic” or “bandwidth”) is the amount of bytes transferred from your site to visitors when they browse your site. You also need to see if the hosting company provides you with sufficient bandwidth for efficient data transfer. If you want to run ASP language then choose the server with the Windows operating system. Do not use the Linux operating system to run ASP even linux also provides aspx. Why? Because Linux is not used to run the ASP. But if you do not need ASP so the operating system that you must select is Linux.

7. Technical support

Does the web hosting service providers provides you 24×7 support ? Will they be able to respond quickly to your problem ? That is the question you should ask to find the answer directly to the web hosting service provider. Test them via email in the middle of the night and on Saturday night, Sunday morning, etc. Check out how long they take to respond to your email. In addition to speed responses, check to see if they are technically competent. You do not want to sign up to host that run by a bunch of salesmen who only know how to sell and not fix a problem.

8. Pricing plans

I note that although the price is always a crucial factor, you should realize that they often get what you pay for, but is not necessarily true that the most expensive hosts are the best. You should compare prices and services before you choose one.

9. Monthly / quarterly / annual payment plans

Most of the Web host allows you to select the annual payment plan that provides a cheaper rate than if you pay monthly. My personal advice is to pay monthly with all new web hosts until you are sure their reliability and honesty. The advantages of paying monthly is allowing you to switch a web host quickly when you find that the current web hosting company does not meet your requirements, so you do not bound to bad web host because you have prepaid for a year.

12 Parameters whether the blog is successful or not

I’ve found interesting article about how to build a success blog and become success blogger from here. These days, more and more Indonesian blogger labeled as irresponsible blogger because the use of anonymity for their identity. This is because of their blogs contains just gossip or slander to others. But in my opinion, they are scum bloggers and not a blogger in general.

Fatih Syuhud wrote on his blog : ” There are times when clear identity is not obligatorily required, and anonymity is forgiven and understood by the readers. But there are times where clear identity is a must and anonymity is a waste of time.”

In this post I’m trying to classify which can be used to determine whether the blog is successful or not :

1. True Identity

There are many instances where scientific writings/bloggings will automatically earn you credibility and honour you deserve. So, if the blogger concerned hiding his/her face under the sun, credibility is simply not there. You will not get loyal visitors when you hide your identity. If you run a business through blogs, you will not be trusted by your visistor or your customer unless you use the true identity.

2. Traffic

The number of visitors can become one of the parameters of the success of a blog. The more visitors on a blog, the more successful the blog. Traffic is usually distinguished itself again into 2 parameters :

Unique Visitors: blog visitors come from 1 certain IP address
Page Views: the total number of pages viewed by blog visitors

From the above ratios will usually be more easily see the quality of blog visitors. A blog called success, usually have a unique visitors and page views that high.

3. RSS Subscriber

In addition to the number of visitors, number of RSS subscribers also can be the parameters of a successful blog. Similarly, with traffic: the more number of RSS subscribers on a blog, the more successful is a blog. Although not enough used by many bloggers, but currently there are more blogs that install chicklet feed counter from FeedBurner. One of the parameters of success for a blog is a fame for a blog or bogger itself. This fame can come from the unique profile that are owned by the blogger, Buzz words that he/she made it through his/her blogs. Based on these parameter, a popular blog, although not have one customer RSS, it can be said that he/she have success blog.

10. Page Rank

Google Page Rank is a ranking system created by Google for referring to the popularity of a blog or blog page. In the 1-10 scale, the higher the number the Google PR (for example PR 8), the higher the ranking. Although many bloggers are not too concerned with the value of PR, must be recognized that a high Google PR is a measure of success.

11. Twitter Follower

As you can see at my blog, i am also using twitter widget. One of the parameters that can be used to measure the success of a blog is the number of Twitter Followers. The formula is the same with the RSS subscribers, the more number of Twitter Followers in a blog, the more successful is a blog.

12. Money

The last parameter can be used to assess the success or not for a blog (and bloggers) is the money earned from blogging activity. The more money produced by a blog (and blogger), the more successful is a blog. Although many bloggers who think that money is not the main purpose of blogging activity, but must also accepted that generate money through blogs is not something that illegal. If done in a way that is correct and ethical, generate money through the blog can even be a prospective business opportunities, legitimate and legal.

This article is addition to my review about antivirus. Antivirus is a software to identify and block computer’s viruses before they can infect your computer or destroy all your data. When you install it, it is important that you must have up to date virus information database.

There are a lot of antivirus software on the market today. Although details may vary between packages, anti-virus software scans files or your computer’s memory for certain patterns that may indicate an infection. The patterns it looks for are based on the signatures, or definitions, of known viruses.

Virus authors are continually releasing new and updated viruses, so it is important that you have the latest definitions installed on your computer.

What happens if the software detects a virus?

Each package has its own method of response when it detects a virus, and the answer may vary depending on whether the software locates the virus during an automatic or a manual scan. Sometimes the software produces a warning dialog box that a virus has been found and asks if you want to “cleanse” the file (to eliminate the virus). Mother’s day (Dec, 22) is a special moment for everyone because in this day we use to honor our mother all over Indonesia. In this day, i want to give poems to all mother in Indonesia specially to my mom :

She was there at the beginning,

She was there to turn to happy times,

She was there to listent to your thought,

She was there at morning time,

She was there at night time when you had a dream that scares,

She was there where you were hungry,

She was there when you needed her,

So, she was there at the beginning, just like a mother is supposed to do.

A Mother’s love, is sure to find
A way to comfort, ease your mind

Akhirnya, Kartu Kredit BCA ditutup

Lega juga sekarang, setelah berbulan-bulan menunggu perbaikan layanan pihak Kartu Kredit BCA untuk memberikan layanan pengiriman billing ke rumah tidak terjadi juga, maka sejak kemarin siang (hampir sore) tanggal 19-12-2008 tepatnya pukul 14.30 saya sudah mengantri ke customer service officer (cso) BCA cabang Blitar. Setelah menunggu hampir 30 menit akhirnya antrian saya sampai juga. Dilayani oleh Bapak Danang, beliau memberikan penjelasan bagi saya bagaimana menutup kartu kredit saya. Sebenarnya Bpk. Danang ingin memberikan solusi bagi saya untuk menyelesaikan masalah billing ini supaya bisa sampai rumah saya lagi jadi saya bisa membatalkan menutup kartu kredit BCA saya, tapi karena tekad saya sudah bulat maka akhirnya diproses juga penutupan kartu kredit ini.

Setelah menandatangi beberapa formulir saya diminta ke bagian teller untuk melunasi sisa tagihan saya yang saya bayarkan melalui rekeing tahapan saya. Di teller diterima oleh Sari dan diproses. Kartu kredit saya kemudian digunting didepan saya.

“Ini saya gunting ya pak, jadi sudah tidak bisa dipakai lagi”

“Oke…silahkan!”

“Nanti kalau bapak ingin membuka kartu kredit lagi melalui bank kami, kami akan layani kembali bapak”

“Oke, terima kasih mbak, jadi ini sudah selesai ya ?”

“Sudah pak..”

Yah… lega deh sekarang, selesai sudah masalah saya dengan kartu kredit BCA ini. Meskipun sejarah kartu kredit ini cukup panjang dan sebagai kartu kredit pertama saya, tapi karena saya merasa tidak mendapatkan layanan yang maksimal, maka saya tidak sayang untuk menutup.
