12 Parameters whether the blog is successful or not

I’ve found interesting article about how to build a success blog and become success blogger from here. These days, more and more Indonesian blogger labeled as irresponsible blogger because the use of anonymity for their identity. This is because of their blogs contains just gossip or slander to others. But in my opinion, they are scum bloggers and not a blogger in general.

Fatih Syuhud wrote on his blog : ” There are times when clear identity is not obligatorily required, and anonymity is forgiven and understood by the readers. But there are times where clear identity is a must and anonymity is a waste of time.”

In this post I’m trying to classify which can be used to determine whether the blog is successful or not :

1. True Identity

There are many instances where scientific writings/bloggings will automatically earn you credibility and honour you deserve. So, if the blogger concerned hiding his/her face under the sun, credibility is simply not there. You will not get loyal visitors when you hide your identity. If you run a business through blogs, you will not be trusted by your visistor or your customer unless you use the true identity.

2. Traffic

The number of visitors can become one of the parameters of the success of a blog. The more visitors on a blog, the more successful the blog. Traffic is usually distinguished itself again into 2 parameters :

Unique Visitors: blog visitors come from 1 certain IP address
Page Views: the total number of pages viewed by blog visitors

From the above ratios will usually be more easily see the quality of blog visitors. A blog called success, usually have a unique visitors and page views that high.

3. RSS Subscriber

In addition to the number of visitors, number of RSS subscribers also can be the parameters of a successful blog. Similarly, with traffic: the more number of RSS subscribers on a blog, the more successful is a blog. Although not enough used by many bloggers, but currently there are more blogs that install chicklet feed counter from FeedBurner. This means, many more bloggers who understand the function about RSS receive as one measure of the success of a blog.

4. Comments

Other parameters that can be the size of a successful blog is the number of comments. The formula is the same: the more comments on a blog, the more successful the blog. In addition to the number of comments, the quality of the comments also usually be a measure of success. It is often found blog with comments spamming or just want to get a backlink. By providing quality criteria comments, the quality of a blog’s success will be much higher.

5. SERP

SERP or search engine result pages also often become a parameter of success blog. The higher ranking in a search results page of search engine (for example, position 1 on the first page), the more successful is the blog.

6. Link Back

Although not too obvious, the number of links that lead back to a blog can also be used as one of the parameters of blog success or not. Blog with hundreds or even thousands link back be considered a success compared with the blogs that have only dozens of links back. In addition to drain the visitors, the number of links back also believed that large positions can improve the search results on search engines.

7. Ranking of the blog

The next parameter is often referred to measure a “Blog Ranking” like from Technorati and Alexa Rank. Technorati has a list of “Top 100 Blog” that is respected, where Blogger listed there often called as A-List blogger. Alexa Rank is a ranking system based on traffic where the lower of the Alexa Rank for a blog, the higher traffic receive by the blog.

8. Awards

Currently, more and more blog contest that gives awards to blogs and bloggers who are considered to meet certain criteria based on a particular category. Some awards can be considered to represent the quality of blog and blogger who become winners.

9. Fame

One of the parameters of success for a blog is a fame for a blog or bogger itself. This fame can come from the unique profile that are owned by the blogger, Buzz words that he/she made it through his/her blogs. Based on these parameter, a popular blog, although not have one customer RSS, it can be said that he/she have success blog.

10. Page Rank

Google Page Rank is a ranking system created by Google for referring to the popularity of a blog or blog page. In the 1-10 scale, the higher the number the Google PR (for example PR 8), the higher the ranking. Although many bloggers are not too concerned with the value of PR, must be recognized that a high Google PR is a measure of success.

11. Twitter Follower

As you can see at my blog, i am also using twitter widget. One of the parameters that can be used to measure the success of a blog is the number of Twitter Followers. The formula is the same with the RSS subscribers, the more number of Twitter Followers in a blog, the more successful is a blog.

12. Money

The last parameter can be used to assess the success or not for a blog (and bloggers) is the money earned from blogging activity. The more money produced by a blog (and blogger), the more successful is a blog. Although many bloggers who think that money is not the main purpose of blogging activity, but must also accepted that generate money through blogs is not something that illegal. If done in a way that is correct and ethical, generate money through the blog can even be a prospective business opportunities, legitimate and legal.

That is the 12 parameters which can be used to determine whether the blog is successful or not. So what do you think about that ?

Lagi Gak Ada Ide Part 2 : Blog Dosen Ekonomi

Tulisan saya kali ini hanya sebagai intermezo saja karena memang lagi gak ada ide Kali ini tulisan mengenai fenomena dosen ngeblog, terutama dosen ekonomi. Beberapa alamat blog dosen saya temukan melalui google yang menurut Pak Nukman Lutfhie sebagai Pencatat Amal Baik dan Buruk Merek. Tulisan saya ini juga bukan karena ingin “meniru” beberapa blog yang sudah membahas mengenai dosen yang ngeblog, tapi karena ingin lebih spesifik pada dosen ekonomi yang ngeblog.

Bagi bapak, ibu, saudara, saudari yang blognya saya “comot”, maaf bila saya secara pribadi belum menghubungi anda semua karena tulisan ini bermaksud memperkaya pengetahuan beberapa kolega dosen dan mahasiswa untuk menarik minat mereka sekedar membuat tulisan publikasi. Jika ada yang tidak berkenan, silahkan kontak saya, nanti akan saya hapus dari tulisan saya (semoga tidak ada ya!!).

theAkuntan.Com | Sasongko Budi’s Ideas & Minds, blog dosen di Perbanas ini cukup membantu saya dalam memperoleh informasi dan opini seputar akuntansi. Opini-opininya “renyah” bak kacang goreng yang enak dibaca dan dimengerti. Salut Pak!!

SLAMET WIYONO, SYARIAH ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE BLOG, meskipun belum banyak artikel di blog dosen FE Universitas Trisakti ini, tapi momentum untuk memberikan ilmu mengenai akuntansi dan keuangan syariah sangat ditunggu-tunggu. Ayo pak.. saya tunggu ya artikel syariahnya.

Pepie Diptyana, Blog Kuliah, sangat menarik bagi saya yang juga dosen akuntansi, blog dosen STIE Perbanas Surabaya ini digunakan sebagai media komunikasi dan pembelajaran ke mahasiswa. Banyak link slide mata kuliah serta bahan kuliah yang bermanfaat.

Nurmala Tri Tjahjono, Open Your Heart and Mind, berisi beberapa artikel yang mengarah ke model penelitian. Masih sedikit memang artikelnya, tapi paling tidak sudah mulai coba ngblog ya bu

Yudi Sutarso, Tebarkan Ilmu Walau Sekalimat, blog yang juga dosen di STIE Perbanas Surabaya ini sangat menarik karena setiap artikel disertai gambar-gambar yang menarik sehingga pembaca bisa menikmati tulisan serta gambar sekaligus.

Itulah beberapa blog dosen ekonomi yang bisa saya tangkap dari google sampai halaman kedua. Dengan begini, blog bisa menjadi tumpahan unek-unek, juga bisa jadi alat komunikasi dengan mahasiswa, bahkan dengan pimpinan sekaligus.

Seandainya ada perkumpulan blog dosen ekonomi… saya ikutan dong !

Blogger’s Choice Awards

Iseng, itulah awalnya saya mengikuti Blogger’s Choice Awards ini. Keisengan ini berawal dari kunjungan saya ke blog Mr. John yang membahas mengenai kontes ini. Meskipun sejak awal saya pesimis blog yang saya kelola bisa menjadi favorit tapi dasar namanya iseng.. tetap saja ngekor ke Mr. John. Apalagi blog SetyaPutra.org ini murni merupakan blog personal yang isinya tentu saja suka-suka saya juga. Parahnya lagi, blog ini semua artikelnya pakai bahasa Indonesia sehingga pengunjung yang bukan orang Indonesia (atau paling tidak orang Melayu) tidak akan tertarik melihat atau bahkan memberikan “Vote” bagi blog ini. Gimana mau kasih dukungan bagi para ‘western‘ kalau isinya saja kagak ngamper bok…. he.. he.. he …

Nah dari sisi itu saja perlu keberanian untuk membuat keisengan ini berhasil, yaitu dengan tutur-tinular (waduh .. kayak drama radio aja nih). Disini saya bisa melakukan asumsi-asumsi mengenai berapa banyak orang Indonesia yang suka dengan blog dan bahkan dengan sukarela memberikan suaranya untuk melakukan ‘vote‘. Caranya sangat mudah dan terus terang saja terinspirasi dari film yang tadi malam (26-Juli-2007) saya tonton dari ANTv yang berjudul Pay It Forward :

1. Buat blog perkenalan di beberapa blog center. Anda bisa membuatnya di banyak pilihan seperti technorati, blogcatalog, blogger, dll.

2. Isikan beberapa kalimat sederhana tapi mengena di blog center tersebut. Misalnya “Tinggalkan alamat blog anda disini (daerah komentar) dan jangan lupa pilih blog saya sebagai blog pilihan anda disini. Jika anda pilih blog saya maka saya juga akan memilih blog anda untuk kontes apapun (technorati favorites atau lainnya)”

3. Tunggu beberapa hari maka akan ada yang merespon ajakan anda.

Inti dari Pay It Forward ini adalah, lakukan kebaikan pada orang lain maka orang yang menerima kebaikan ini akan membalas kebaikannya pada anda dan orang lain dan begitu seterusnya. Kalau ini terjadi pada para blogger di Indonesia.. saya sudah bisa membayangkan bagaimana blog-blog Indonesia akan menjadi blog paling favorit mengingat komunitas blogger di Indonesia secara signifikan terus meningkat.

Nah, apakah saya bisa mengharapkan hal tersebut diatas terwujud ? Kita lihat saja nanti.
