povertyHuman Birth Control

According to emedicinehealth.com birth control is preventing pregnancy.

Today, the voluntary control of fertility is of paramount importance to modern society. For centuries, humans have relied upon their imagination to avoid pregnancy.

  • Egyptian ancient writings dating back to 1850 BC refer to techniques using a device placed in a woman’s vagina made of crocodile dung and fermented dough, which most likely created a hostile environment for sperm. Other items placed in the vagina included plugs of gum, honey, and acacia.
  • During the early second century in Rome, a highly acidic concoction of fruits, nuts, and wool was placed on the cervix as a type of spermicidal barrier.

From a global perspective, countries currently face the crisis of rapid growth of the human population that has begun to threaten human survival. According to the Population Reference Bureau’s 2003 World Population Data Sheet, the world’s current growth rate is 1.3%. Based on this growth rate, the population would double in 53.8 years. The less developed world’s natural increase rate (births minus deaths, without migration) is 1.6%; therefore, population in these countries would double in 43.8 years.

Poverty

Poverty is the deprivation of common necessities such as food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, all of which determine our quality of life. It may also include the lack of access to opportunities such as education and employment which aid the escape from poverty and/or allow one to enjoy the respect of fellow citizens (source : wikipedia.org).

According to World Bank, Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. Poverty is losing a child to illness brought about by unclean water. Poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom.

Relationship

There are several keywords that comes up :

  • Birth, rapid growth of the human birth would double in less than 40 years. So you can imagine that if in one country have more people than availability of the land they can life in it, a lot of problem will be rise and this country threaten by chaos from its people that hunger for food, place or money that not enough for all people.
  • Human population, with big human population on country like Indonesia would reduce  oppurtunity to have job, to have enough income to meet their basic needs, to have  decent health services, etc.
  • Poverty, some nations deals the poverty even they only have less human population. But a lot of nations deals with poverty because they have a lot of people is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. This situation is because more people living in one little space or land than job’s supply. Unemployment rate would rise and poverty will be all over these countries.
  • Birth Control, this method would reduce growth rate of human population in a country and hope that people have enough food, place or money to fulfill their basic needs. Less human population would supplied more job to fulfill in this country and would reduce poverty.

Some people or expert would say that it’s not true that birth control alone will reduce poverty because poverty have a lot of aspects to look for. Yes, I agree with you completely. But at least birth control will be one giant step to stop poverty because a lot of country that have big population growth also have big poverty problem.

For example, Indonesia. When Orde Baru regim rules, they have birth control program known as Keluarga Berencana with the slogan “Dua Anak Cukup“.  With this program or slogan, Orde Baru regim can reduce poverty rate that rise when Orde Lama regim rules this country. A lot of people can have a job and food price reachable by the people’s  income.

Now, after Orde Baru falls, the birth control program still exist and supervised by goverment bureau called  BKKBN. But this bureau still can not control human population because Indonesia government bussy to defend themself from impeachment threaten by parlement’s  member so this program is not top priority so BKKBN not have enough resources to control human population in Indonesia.  Because of that, human population in Indonesia rise about 20 millions people in just 10 years. With about 200 millions people live in Indonesia now, definitely would rise poverty rate.

Solution

If Indonesia government want to reduce poverty rate, they have to activate again Keluarga Berencana program and stimulate this program with grant or compliment from government for their people if they do this program in their family. Yes, this is only one solution to reduce poverty beside a lot of solutions like rise GDP, lower food price, and give people job’s oppurtunity, but this one solution is almost 60%  will reduce poverty rate because birth control have multiple effect to poverty causes.

Yes, it can, but I think not the only solution.

I think it would make a huge difference, if people didn’t have 4 or 5 kids to take care of, let alone the downtime of having 4 or 5 kids, they would be able to concentrate on a better life.  birth control could help this, i mean i’m not planning on having 5 because i can hardly afford 2.

  3. KATHY Says:

Yeah birth control would affect considerably. I think if you have to be hounded about how kids are starving. Then I think birth control needs to be manditory if the moms that keep squirting them out want the world to take care of them. We should have a say.Hunger will NEVER end unless birth control is used. Political correctness/liberals use the excuse…”You should not have a right to tell them how to use their bodies”. Well the fact is ,they expect others to save their kid’s  when they are starving..then it is our business.. Enough is enough.. World hunger forever as long as people are in denial…I sit back, and am sick of hearing about more and more money will help. But it will NEVER BE ENOUGH..

  4. Russ from Christmas Cards Says:

I agree with Matt (comment above), if you have 5 kids its going to be a struggle so anything that reduces the birth rate would help. Education should be at the forefront of this. That said in some of the countries they need lots of kids as the work is more manual/land based so the more workers they have to tend the crops the better which is very different to the western world.

  5. Jill N Says:

There are two sides to the issue. One is birth control, but the other is effective prenatal nutrition for the children that are born.  The populations of these areas are such that not only are there too many people being born, but they are born with numerous health challenges which puts further burden on the cociety.

  6. Chris Williams Says:

I totally agree. It’s our duty to help the world cope up with the crisis. Though other measures can also be taken but birth control stand strong chances to overcome poverty.

  7. Rod from British Lions Rugby Says:

I agree birth control is part of empowering the disenfranchised (often women who have no choice in how many kids they have – their husbands / partners decide). Also, condom use is effective at reducing the transmission of diseases like HIV, which also has a positive effect in poor communities. After all, you can’t work and care for your family if you are sick or dying.

  8. ken from cheap web hosting package Says:

I seen a interesting article how the more modern countries have lower birth rates because of survival rates. It used to be you had so many children because some would not live to be adults now people need to think more about how they can provide for them and how many they can take care of.

  9. so bored Says:

This is the most important thing when we are talking about poverty. now a days people should really have control cause many many children suffer from poverty..

  10. Lucas from absolutemartialarts Says:

Birth control can really reduce poverty but the question is how to control birth in a moral way? Poverty is all over the world but what makes it worst is when people disregard this fact while others are doing immoral things like abortion. This two should be address in the topic birth control. Many suffers from the effect of this kind of decision because of lack of information.

  11. vaporizers Says:

others say that over population is not really the root of all problem, is the fact that we lack sufficient resources.

but in my opinion, over-population is the main problem because the resources would be enough for a certain amount of people in the world.

  12. Jerry from Legal Separation Says:

Many things contribute towards poverty. You make some good points though of the relationship between a large population and poverty. A country with already insufficient resources is obviously going to find it more difficult supporting itself if their are more people to support.

  13. Nicholas from st louis mixed martial arts Says:

yes, you’re right! human birth control really reduced poverty. As long as people doesn’t entertain abortion and they just do it in a normal way then there’s no problem.

  14. Paijo Says:

  15. SetyaPutra.Org Says:

#Paijo : masak sih ? kebetulan aja kali ya :) yang pasti saya bukan TS siapa-siapa kok. dijamin masih independen dan rasionalitas ada didepan.

  16. elizaveta from job search Says:

The article is interesting but it seems to me unhuman on the one hand. But on the other, it would be wiser not to control birth rate but to introduce better contraception methods. Bt it hardly will be an easy job to do to change som stereotypes people have, anyway.

  17. ANSH from executive dating Says:

This is true because government is not able to give employment to all population so if the birth rate will be reduce so it will cause of full employment, and employment is the only way through which poverty problem can be solved.
